Clemente heads up the investment team and is responsible for portfolio management across all fund strategies. He is supported by Portfolio Manager Kiyan Zandiyeh with Taco Sieburgh Sjoerdsma providing additional ancilliary research support in specific sectors.
Clemente has a ten year track record of investing in the region and has developed an intimate knowledge of the investment universe across each of the strategies employed by Sturgeon Capital. Clemente holds a degree in Business Administration and Finance from Bocconi University. Before founding Sturgeon he worked as an analyst for Haussmann Holdings, and has previously worked at HSBC, Bear Stearns and Goldman Sachs. Clemente was awarded ‘Rising Star of Hedge Funds’ in 2008 by Institutional Investor and has been quoted by the Financial Times, New York Times, CNN, Bloomberg, Fox News and other media outlets whereby he is cited as an expert on Central Asian markets.
Taco performs the dual role of COO & CFO at Sturgeon Capital, overseeing research and investment operations.
Taco has over 20 years of experience in the alternative investment industry. Specifically he was previously Head of Research for UFG focused on Russia, as well as Head of Research in Singapore for Paribas. He has worked as a senior analyst for both a global macro hedge fund and for an emerging markets treasury fund. He was also a rated analyst for UBS. Taco holds an MBA from Chicago and is a CFA charter holder.
Lanna provides back and middle office trading operations support for the Sturgeon Capital fund range.
Lanna joined Sturgeon Capital in February 2013. She previously worked for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme as part of the Investment Claims Team. Lanna has worked for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, where she was responsible for operations reports and general administration. Lanna has more than three years of fund Operations experience and also responsible for fund accounting. She holds an MBA from Imperial College, London with a concentration in Investment Management. She is also working towards full completion of the Investment Management Certificate.
Kiyan is the Sturgeon Capital portfolio manager for the Iran fund.
Kiyan Zandiyeh is a Portfolio Manager where he manages the firm’s Iran fund. Having launched in December 2015, the fund was the first to provide international investors access to Iranian markets. Prior to Sturgeon, Kiyan worked for the renowned economist, Nouriel Roubini, covering Emerging Market equities, and has previously worked at the London Stock Exchange.
Kiyan has practical, grass-roots experience of the business environment in Iran, having founded and operated a business in the country. He travels to Iran at least once a month, where he maintains an extensive network of contacts across all sectors of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Kiyan also sits on the board of a company producing offshore pipelines for the Oil & Gas Industry. He is a graduate of Imperial College Business School
Lawrence performs the role of Investor Relations and Business Development for Sturgeon Capital.
Lawrence joined the Sturgeon team in July 2016, prior to this he was in Private Banking. Initially Lawrence was at Coutts & Co, in the International Private Bank, Middle East team. Following this Lawrence worked for an independent boutique wealth manager, where he also principally focused on the Middle Eastern market. He graduated from The University of Edinbugh with a Masters degree in Theology, having majored in Islamic Studies.
